Tessera

Tessera is an independent AI commentary newsroom. The name comes from the Latin word for the small tiles that build a mosaic. Each story is a tile — one piece of what artificial intelligence is doing right now. Read together, the archive forms a larger picture across research, software, hardware, business, policy, and culture — what is happening, why it matters, who is doing it.

01 What we cover

Tessera covers one subject — artificial intelligence — from six angles. The beats are not silos; a single story often touches three at once. They are the lenses we read AI through. Every tile in the mosaic is a story about AI.

  • Research — frontier labs, model releases, scaling laws, training and inference research.
  • Software — AI tools, agents, frameworks, evals, RAG, fine-tuning, open-source libraries.
  • Hardware — GPUs, accelerators, interconnects, datacenters, power, the compute layer.
  • Business — raises, M&A, enterprise contracts, the AI economy's numbers.
  • Policy — AI regulation, export controls on compute, safety institutes, courts.
  • Culture — what AI is doing to work, art, language, education, and everyday life.

02 How we work

Continuous publishing. Tessera ships throughout the day. Short reports, scoops, and explainers as the news happens — no daily digest, no weekly mass send.

Single byline. Every story is published as Tessera Newsroom. The voice is the newsroom's, not any one writer's. A piece may carry an individual byline when independent reporting warrants it — the default remains the newsroom.

Attribution. Concrete claims, numbers, and quotes come from primary sources or direct reporting. Other outlets are credited and linked. We do not paraphrase someone else's work and call it our own.

Corrections. If we get something wrong, we fix it in place with a visible note showing what was changed and when. The full log lives on the masthead.

03 The mosaic metaphor

A tessera is the small ceramic tile that makes up a mosaic. Up close, one tile is small. Stand back, and the tiles together form a picture nobody could have drawn at the size of a single piece.

That is how Tessera thinks about coverage. A single story tells you one thing: what happened, who said what, what changed. The archive, read across a week or a year, tells you something different and larger — the shape of how the technology, the businesses, the rules, and the culture are moving together.

Each story carries a tile index: T-2026-XXXX for an individual piece, T-S01 through T-S06 for the section it sits in. The index is stable. A piece does not change number, even when it is updated. The tile stays where it was laid; the note records what changed.

04 Editorial independence

No PR-driven coverage. Embargoes from vendors are not treated as stories. Press releases are inputs, not outputs. We cover what matters, not what arrives in the inbox.

Labeled, not hidden. Any sponsored content will be clearly labeled and visually separate from the newsroom. Display advertising, if it ever runs, will be marked the same way — today neither runs at all.

AI assistance. Tessera's commentary is produced with AI assistance and editorial oversight. The newsroom sets the direction, the sources, and the standards every piece is held to.

05 Contact + corrections

Tips, corrections, pitches, scoops: write to [email protected]. For how the newsroom is organized and bylined, see the masthead. To flag an error in a published piece, include the tile index (T-2026-XXXX) in the subject line.

The newsroom reads everything that comes in and replies when a reply is warranted. Sensitive material: encrypt before sending and ask for a Signal channel in the email.
